Bill Bossi, FSA, MAAA

President and Managing Member

 

Bill has 35+ years of insurance experience in a variety of actuarial and management roles.  Prior to establishing Disability Insurance Specialists, LLC in 1996 he worked as an independent consultant providing management and strategic advice to disability carriers.  Mr. Bossi was SVP & CFO of Monarch Life and later EVP managing the company’s disability insurance line of $150 million of annual premium.   He also served on the Monarch Life Insurance Company Board of Directors.   Monarch provided disability insurance private label services to seven insurance companies outside of the Monarch family.  Prior to joining Monarch, Mr. Bossi served as VP and Corporate Actuary for Connecticut Mutual and had 10 years of experience in a variety of actuarial assignments with Connecticut General\CIGNA.  A graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University in 1978 with a B.S. in Mathematics, Mr. Bossi received his Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 1983, and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.  

 

Tad Verney, FSA, MAAA

CFO and Managing Member

 

Tad has over 35+ of insurance experience in a variety of actuarial and financial roles, including 7 years in divisional CFO roles. Prior to establishing DIS, he worked as an independent actuarial consultant, primarily as financial officer for Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company's disability income line of business. His work experience includes 17 years at CIGNA covering a broad range of disciplines including strategy development, product design and pricing, financial reporting, valuation, and financial controls. Mr. Verney's most recent positions at CIGNA were CFO of the CIGNA Healthcare National Service Operation, and CFO of CIGNA Re, the life and health reinsurance division of CIGNA.

 

Linda H. Hammerling, FSA

 

Linda joined DIS in 1998. She has 30 years of insurance industry experience, with extensive expertise in the actuarial aspects of disability and other morbidity-based products.  Since joining the company, she has performed a variety of projects for our clients including pricing, product design, valuation, compliance, and financial analysis. Prior to joining the company, Linda worked for Connecticut Mutual and E.F. Hutton Life where her responsibilities included valuation and financial reporting for disability income and life product lines, as well as life product design and pricing.  Linda is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.


Rita Y. Holroyd, RN, ALHC

 

Rita has 25 years of disability claim experience. She began her insurance career at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, where she remained through the merger with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. Her last position was as Director of Disability Claims. Her experience includes the management of all types of disability and waiver of premium claims, including high indemnity claims. She has also managed a variety of claim units and acted as both trainer and mentor for claim personnel. Before working in the insurance field, Ms. Holroyd was a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting for over eight years. For five years, she was the Nurse Manager of a 41 bed patient unit, with responsibility for all patient care, personnel and budget. During this time, she received her certification as a nursing administrator from the American Nurses Association.  Rita also is currently responsible for managing customer service support.

 

John E. Sahlman, FLMI

Systems and Operations

 

John joined DIS in 1999.  He has over 39 years of varied industry experience including 18 years in claims and claim system support, underwriting, systems and international experience.  He started his career with Prudential in individual life and health claims and later moved to small group claims. In 1984 he joined Hartford Life in the Group Field Claim operation. He held various management positions in Group Claims and Life Systems. In 1994 he joined Hartford Life International and relocated to Buenos Aires to assist with the development of new joint ventures including participation in the privatization of the social security system. He directed systems and operations development activities for the group which experienced rapid growth in the first four years.  Current responsibilities include Operations and Systems.
